Kukui (Candlenut)
Aleurites moluccanus

     Kukui contains Linoleic acid and α-Linolenic acid, as well as vitamins A, C, D, and E.

 

Cultural Use:

         - Oil was used for fire and candles

         - Used to make dyes

         - The nut of the fruit is used to make the bulb of torches and              to make traditional leis

         - The nut (when crushed, salted, roasted and seasoned) can                be used as food as a relish

         - Flower could be strung to make leis as well

 

Medicinal Use:

         - Flower used to treat sores inisde the mouth and on the                    tounge

         - Sap also used to treat sores

         - Sap can be used to treat chapped lips, cold sores, and mild              sunburns

 

Enviorment:

         - Can be found on all islands.

         - Usually found in valleys and gulches

         - Can also be found in moist tropical rain forests
